We recognize the unique power of language to transform human beings and society. Language is perhaps the most accessible bridge to empathy and understanding, capable of conveying the simplest expression or instruction to defining both individual selves and whole communities.
At Gris Literatura, we consider the creative use of language as fundamental to the human experience, and self-expression to be our birthright and a vital necessity. We are committed to expanding the scope and accessibility of poetry and its resources to all people who share our love of the craft.
Support Poetry, Pay Poets
We seek to support both the pursuit and appreciation of poetry. We do so by sponsoring classes, free workshops, and unique events – along with open mics & readings. Our classes are intended for both poets and lovers of poetry, as well as those who wish to broaden their understanding of poetry.
At Gris Literatura, we aim to make our classes and events affordable. But equally fundamental, we feel it is important to support poetry by supporting the poets themselves. Too often poets receive little, if any, pay for their talents. We seek to change that dynamic. Teaching poets will get paid for their effort. Event readers will be paid as well. Our workshops will always remain free to everyone, as will our open mic readings.
